Ruth Marie Bass
P.O. Box 690
Na' alehu, HI 96772
808-929-8364
ruthmariebassna,yahoo. com
August 17, 2007

Dear Chairman Hoffmann and Council Members:
I support the override of Mayor Kim's veto of Bills 112 and 156. As

our island becomes more industrialized and subdivided, affordable housing
is unattainable for many local families. For those who aren't displaced by

the mechanics of gentrification, we witness the doubling and tripling up of
households living in one unit. There are presently three or more generations
living in single family homes throughout this island. Our young adults,
though fully employed, cannot find affordable homes for themselves.
Industrialization and subdivision of land contribute to immigration and all
the population influx impacts on our infrastructure. These two bills,
acknowledging the responsibilities of those who profit the most, provide an
opportunity for our local families to not only remain residents of this island
but to share in the American dream of home ownership.
Thank you,
Ruth
Ruth Marie Bass gym; ~~rJ . l3
Ref.
