I am not for allowing a special zoning for Supercenters.
Most of the components of supercenters already exist on this island now. The only added component will be a produce section.
Supercenters do not support small growers. We need to protect small growers.
I don't have a personal stake in this as we Hamakua Springs has everything we need in place to supply supercenters.
Are you familiar with the term "Peak Oil"? It says that demand will soon exceed the ability to supply oil. This means that oil prices will
rise and it will never come back down. It is a finite resource and we've already harvested the low hanging fruit. Industrial agriculture
is based on cheap oil. All this has enormous implications for Hawaii. Wal Mart is a distraction to the real problem, which is how are
we going to grow enough food for our people in Hawaii? It distracts us from finding solutions to our problem now.
I am attending the Association for the Study of Peak Oil (ASPO) in Houston in mid Oct. Some of you need to go!! The new energy
committee is o.k. But, we
Really need to focus. Go to my blog-hahaha.hamakuasprings.com. and look for the one about the frog sitting in a pot as the
temperature is going higher and higher.
Aloha
Richard
Comm.
