~~G- <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> • <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 439 (~'7 <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION URGING OUR STATE LEGISLATORS TO PASS HB661 HDl WITH <br /> AMENDMENTS THAT ESTABLISH COMPREHENSIVE PUBLIC FUNDING FOR <br /> ELECTIONS TO HAWAII COUNTY COUNCIL. <br /> WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council finds that the democratic process is be best <br /> served through the availability of a full public funding option for the elections of our county, <br /> state and national representatives; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council finds that HB661 HD1 addresses the economic <br /> disparities that are inherent in the current elections process; and <br /> WHEREAS, as the policy making body for Hawaii County this Council wishes to use <br /> this resolution as a vehicle to express our strong support for HB661 HD1 and express support for <br /> for it to be amended with language that will create a comprehensive public funding for elections <br /> process for election to Hawaii County Council; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council finds that establishing and embracing a <br /> "Comprehensive Public Funding For Elections" process for the Hawaii County Council <br /> elections is prudent and preferred as indicated by its adoption of Resolution 41-07 on Februazy <br /> 22, 2007; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council is desirous of applying "Comprehensive <br /> Public Funding for Elections" for elections to the Hawaii County Council and is requesting the <br /> Legislative Research Bureau submit language to amend HB661 HD1 to accomplish this; now, <br /> therefore <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it <br /> does embrace the establishment of a "Comprehensive Public Funding for Elections" process for <br /> elections to the County Council of the County of Hawaii and urges the 2008 Legislature of the <br /> State of Hawaii to pass HB661 HD1 in an amended form that would allow for Comprehensive <br /> Public Funding of the 2010 Hawaii County Council elections; and <br /> <br />
