REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC SAFETY <br /> AND PARKS AND RECREATION <br /> <br /> DATE: December 4, 2007 RE: Communication No. 817 <br /> <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Ben Franklin Bldg., 2"d Floor <br /> 333 Kilauea Avenue <br /> Hilo, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 9:05 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Public Safety and Pazks and Recreation, to which was referred <br /> Communication No. 817, reports as follows: <br /> Communication No. 817, transmitted by Mayor Hany Kim, dated November 8, 2007, submits <br /> for confirmation the appointments of Melvyn Aila, Rudy Hart, Edgar "Eddie O" Ombac, and <br /> Terry Wallace to the County of Hawaii Fire Board of Appeals. <br /> Melvyn Aila is a 60-year resident of Hawaii. He moved to the Big Island in 2006, after retiring <br /> from Tripler Army Hospital where he was employed as an x-ray technologist from 1979 to 2005. <br /> Mr. Aila states that he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will serve a term <br /> to end on December 31, 2008. <br /> Rudy Hart is a lifelong resident of Hawaii. Since 1984, he has served as a member of several <br /> Hawaii County commissions including Water, Liquor, Emergency Medical Service, Fire, and <br /> Liquor Adjudication. Mr. Hart states that he is a Democrat. If confirmed, he will serve a term to <br /> end on December 31, 2010. <br /> Edgar "Eddie O" Ombac is a 14-year resident of Hawaii. He is a member and past president <br /> of the Big Island Association of Nurserymen, a member and past vice president of <br /> Waiakeawanea PTA, and a former coach at Kea`au High School. Mr. Ombac states that he is not <br /> affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will serve a term to end on December 31, <br /> 2011. <br /> Terry Wallace is a 42-yeaz resident of Hawaii. He retired from the San Francisco Fire <br /> Department in 1985. Mr. Wallace served as a member of the Hawaii County Fire Commission <br /> from 2001 to 2003. He states that he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he <br /> will serve a term to end on December 31, 2008. <br /> Chairperson Ikeda was not present at the meeting, due to a family emergency. Vice-Chair <br /> Yoshimoto presided over the meeting. Mr. Aila, Mr. Hart and Mr. Ombac were present at the <br /> PSPRC Report No. 10 <br /> <br />
