<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Hawaii Fire Department <br /> Water Safety Officer II <br /> Position No. OO-New <br /> Attachment B <br /> <br /> <br /> Work Experience - Kind and length In years <br /> A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from <br /> high school and one (1) year experience as a beach lifeguard. <br /> <br /> Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: <br /> Knowledge of. techniques and methods of ocean rescue; techniques of emergency life <br /> support including mouth-to-mouth and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation; first aid/basic <br /> medical care principles and practices; ordinances and regulations governing park, <br /> beach, shore water, and ocean usage. <br /> Ability to: swim long distances; efficiently handle a rescue board and lifesaving <br /> apparatus; rescue persons from the ocean; administer life support techniques including <br /> mouth-to-mouth and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation; operate a mechanical <br /> respiratorfinhalator; give first aid/basic medical care; meet and deal tactfully and <br /> effectively with the public; read and follow written instructions. <br /> Special Woridnq Conditions: irregular work schedule, including shift, rotation, weekend, <br /> and/or holiday work; exposure to hazardous conditions. <br /> Physical Requirements: <br /> Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and <br /> physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper to perform the essential <br /> functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. <br /> Physical Effort Grouping: Special <br /> Licenses or Certificates Required: <br /> Possession of a current United States Lifesaving Association Ocean Lifeguard <br /> Certificate, a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers or <br /> American Red Cross Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional Rescuer <br /> (CPR/PR) Certificate, a current 40-hour First Responder Certificate that meets United <br /> States Department of Transportation guidelines, and a valid State of Hawaii driver's <br /> license (Class 3) or any other valid comparable driver's license. <br />
