REQUEST: <br /> <br /> A resolution to establish two full-time positions in the Department of Public Works, Traffic Division: <br /> Position Title Rating Bargaining <br /> Unit <br /> Traffic Technician-Drafting Technician SR-13 03 <br /> Traffic Technician II SR-15 03 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> New Traffic Technician-Drafting Technician SR-13. <br /> The Traffic Safety Section has only one position, namely a Civil Engineer IV performing all of the duties required to address <br /> the planning, engineering, and design of traffic control devices on County roadways. In addition, this person is responsible <br /> for preparing reports on traffic safety projects which encompasses traffic calming such as speed humps, smart signs, etc. <br /> There are no designated personnel to assist or provide back up and train for the duties of this position. This new position <br /> will provide assistance to the Traffic Safety Section with plan reviews, general traffic counts for signals and stop sign <br /> warrant analysis, speed hump requests, investigations, drafting striping plans & striping as-builts. <br /> New Traffic Technician II SR-15 <br /> The Traffic Signals and Street Lights Section currently has only one designated personnel to monitor and maintain the "in <br /> house" hardware and software for the traffic signals. This position is responsible for all conflicts and emergencies and is <br /> available for standby 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. An additional Traffic Technician II position will provide assistance <br /> and establish a career ladder for the training and development of traffic oriented personnel. The additional personnel will <br /> enhance worker safety by providing as additional position for standby and approved leave. This new position will provide <br /> assistance to the Traffic Tech Specialist in the Signal/Street Light Section in maintaining signal software and intricate signal <br /> timing involving specialized data collection and congestion monitoring. A recent audit by Human Resources concluded that <br /> this new position is necessary to ensure that our traffic signals are properly designed, monitored, and maintained. <br />
