To: Hawaii County Council

RE: TESTIMONY IN SUPPORT OF BILL 224
Relating To Prohibition of Smoking In Certain Places

Council Hearing: February 21, 2008

Aloha Hawaii County Council.

I am a senior at Kealakehe High School and I surf and go to the beach often.

I would like for this bill prohibiting smoking on our beaches passed.

I would like this bill to pass because I surf and go the beaches. I hate to see it trashed
with cigarette buds because everyone goes to the beach to get fresh air and have fun with
their ohana. By having smokers around you don't feel clean and it disturbs the BBQ
ohana vibe. Most smokers don't even kuleana their opala and leave it for others to clean.

Please pass this Bill 224 to stop the smoking on our beaches. If we want Hawaii to stay
beautiful, radiant, clean, and a fun place for our families we need to keep the dirty
cigarette opala out of here.

Mahalo,
Mercedes Zapataoliva
