Suite C-5 Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Waimea, Hawaii 96743 March 10, 2008 TO: Council Members Hawaii County Council FROM: ete Hoffmann, Chair Hawaii County Council RE: Proposed Amendment to Bill 257 (Relating to initiative and referendum) Below for your consideration are four proposed amendments to Bill 257, a bill for an ordinance to initiate a Charter amendment to article XI of the Hawaii County Charter (2006), relating to initiative and referendum. For illustrative purposes, proposed amendments to the existing language of Bill 257, have been bolded and ramseyered below. 1. Amend § 114(b)(1) by inserting the word "residence" before the word "addresses" in the first line. As amended, this paragraph would read: "(1) The names and residence addresses of the committee members as they appear on the general county register, the committee's designated representative, and the address to which all notices shall be sent;" 2. Amend § 114(g)(2)(B) by replacing "Elections Office" with "Office of Elections." As amended, this paragraph would read: "(B) The deadline date set by the State of Hawaii [Eleetiens] Office of Elections for the submission of the ballot title, ballot question, and ballot summary; and" Comm.
