PROJECT DESIGN/SERVICE DELIVERY (continued) <br /> <br /> To reiterate, agreement has been reached to use these facilities in Phase I of the projects <br /> 1) Ocean View--The Ka' u Kids are housed at the Hawaiian Ocean View Community Association <br /> Clubhouse. The center has a stage and limited sound system that they allow the group to use. <br /> 2) Na' alehu--Principal, Peter Volpe, has welcomed the project which will be housed in a new <br /> portable classroom. Approximately $1,000 of the grant will be used to provide security grills on <br /> <br /> classroom windows. <br /> 3) Huliau O Kau has a 3-acre farm back of its offices, all provided by Ka'u Agribusiness. The <br /> poi machine will be used during their summer youth ag project. During the school year, the poi <br /> machine will be housed by the VocTech Dept. at Ka'u High School, where Future Farmers of <br /> America students raise taro. <br /> <br /> Equipment to be purchased: <br /> 1) Ocean View--Sony CCD-TR930 Hi 8 camera; Sony VCT-R630RM tripod; Sony EVS-5000 <br /> Hi 8 tape deck; Sony SSLV-980HF VHS tape deck; Videonics mixer. <br /> 2) Na'alehu--Ten P166/64MB/3.5G computers and 1 NT dual processor server 128MG/7.OG/ <br /> modem/24xCD-ROi\/Lfloppyimonitorivideocard/keyboar&mouse networked pia 12-purl hub v,~ith <br /> Windows 95, Office 97, and Publisher 97 software. <br /> 3) Pahala--one poi-making machine. <br /> <br /> Hours and days of operation: <br /> 1) Ocean View--The Ka'u Kids meet on weekends and the program is to be run by the Hawaiian <br /> Ocean View Community Association. This is an equipment purchase only for Ocean View. <br /> 2) Na' alehu--The reverse mentoring project will run from 3-5pm on school days and depending <br /> upon additional funding, from Sam-4pm during the summer. Evening parent mentoring sessions will <br /> be scheduled and paid for by Hilo Community School for Adults. <br /> 3) Pahala--Huliau O Ka' u will use the poi machine during its summertime youth agricultural <br /> program funded by Alu Like and Hawaii County Research & Development. During the school year. <br /> the VocTeclvAg will house and use the poi machine during its normal class schedule. <br /> <br /> Plans to obtain additional funding and resources include: <br /> • DBEDT-CBED is considering a Training Tools grant. <br /> • Hilo Community School for Adults will purchase the educational software. <br /> • Talks have began with Alu Like on Oahu. <br /> • Pursuit of a $3,000 Atherton automation grant for the "super computer" needed for project. <br /> • Looking ahead: Family Literacy grant program, Hawaii Community Foundation's Hawaii <br /> Technical Assistance Network and Kellogg's Managing Information with Rural America. <br />
