Yamashiro <br /> Mayor <br /> County of Hawaii <br /> 25 Aupuni Street <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Dear Mayor Yamashiro: <br /> <br /> It is with pleasure that the Juvenile Justice State Advisory Council and the Office of Youth <br /> Services award the County of Hawaii federal Title V Juvenile Delinquency Prevention <br /> Federal funds for three years. The first year's award is $40,000 and each subsequent <br /> award is dependent upon submittal of a proposal, our continued receipt of federal Title V <br /> funds and program evaluation. Ms. Juliette Tulang, Deputy Parks Director and her staff <br /> have worked diligently with Ms. Charlene Hart and the Ka'u community to develop their <br /> community-based delinquency prevention proposal. <br /> <br /> The services proposed by the Kokua Ka'u Project include a reverse mentoring and <br /> computer education project for youth and parents from Na'alehu and Ocean View. liands A E <br /> will also augment the Kalo to Poi project for Pahala youthJ. These activities are designed <br /> to combat Extreme Economic Deprivation by teaching youth marketable skills as well as <br /> to combat Academic Failure Beginning in Late Elementcny School, risk factors identified <br /> by the risk and resource assessment conducted by the community. <br /> <br /> We thank you for your cooperation and look forward to working with the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation and the Ka'u Community on this exciting and innovative project. <br /> <br /> Ms. Suzanne Toguchi will be in contact with Ms. Juliette Tulang to negotiate the terms of <br /> the contract.
