'We most take the long-range view and save as much of
the remaining shoreline I-ceas as possible for future generations
to enjoy, especially the limited sandy beaches we have.
Recently, an expe.vt on shoreline erosion spoke at Hale
Halawai and gave a convincing report and showed photos of the
damage that sea walls do to the shoreline it is aesi ned to
protect and to neighboring; properties. We urge you To ca1L on
the Sea Grant experts to present their findings if you are in-
clined to allow the condo project to proceed including the sea
wall reconstruction. The reason is that the available knowledge
tells us that there will eery likely be negative impact on the
neighboring coastline, and these p,',operty owners could sue the
County, and we taxpayers -ill have to pay for the damages. So
we urge you, the decision maker-, not to make this mistake.
The proposal to effect an exchange so that the County will
gain this property appears to be a win-win solution. We fu11y
support this idea and urge sou to vote for it.
Thank you for this opportunity to present this testimony.
i

`Lois Tyler
Vice President
Kona Conservation Group
P.O.
