COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. 659 08 <br />(Draft 2) <br />A RESOLUTION URGING THE DIRECTOR OF MASS TRANSIT TO IMPLEMENT <br />REGULARLY SCHEDULED BUS SERVICE TO AND FROM HILO AIRPORT. <br />WHEREAS, currently there is no bus service to or from the Hilo Airport; and <br />WHEREAS, we must endeavor to provide transportation to all citizens that need it; and <br />WHEREAS, with ever increasing fuel costs, it is increasingly difficult for drivers to fuel, <br />insure and license personal vehicles; and <br />WHEREAS, taxis provide a valuable public service at the airport, however, not every <br />one can afford to use a taxi; and <br />WHEREAS, there are days when cruise boats make it more profitable for taxis to service <br />the pier and taxis are not readily available at the Hilo Airport; and <br />WHEREAS, it is important to have a seamless, intermodal transportation for residents, <br />visitors and workers for a healthy economy and society; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY <br />OF HAWAII that bus service to and from the Hilo Airport is an important public service. <br />
