LINDA LILLIAN K. DELA CRUZ
568 E. Kahaopea Street
Hilo, Hi 96720
Telephone (808) 959-4676

August 5,1998 RECEIVED

HAWAII COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING - 7 BY
Quay Co no/ C
MY TESTIMONY: Irradiation Plant

My name is Mrs. Linda Lillian Keaweehu Dela Cruz and I live in Hilo, Panaewa Hawaiian
Home Lands, next to where they want to build the Irradiation Plant. I am President of the
Aboriginal Native Hawaiian Association and I am a candidate for the State House of
Representatives from the 3rd District. I give testimony today on behalf of myself and the
membership of the Aboriginal Native Hawaiian Association. I am also a farmer with a 10
acre Guava Orchard.

We are opposed to building an irradiation plant anywhere on this island. This time I hope
I can make myself clear on this issue. This subject has been going on for the last 10 years
or more.

The first time, this state and county were ing to 5 ieethe plant, and I say seek because
that's the only word I can think of =tire plant in on Railroad Avenue, less than half a
mile from where I live. Everytime I ask, "where you going build em", nobody would tell
me. Well, I found out anyway. And now, it's being done again. Where will this plant be
built if it will be built?

Well! I found out again that the plant will be built on the other side of where I live. Yes,
this council promised that the plant would not be built on Hawaiian Home Lands. Yet, the
plant is still going to be built next to Hawaiian Home Lands on Bishop Estate land in the
middle of our Hawaiian community of Keaukaha and Panaewa.

This is one of the reasons why I am a candidate for the State House of Representatives. I
was a Democrat for many years and I changed to the Republican party. Our present
representative is not looking out for our welfare and Councilman Chong, you are our
councilman in our district and I hope you will not let anyone build this plant neat to us.

First, I said, don't build the irradiation plant on Hawaiian Home Lands. Now I'm tired of
watching out for where you plan to build the plant. Now, I say, "do not build this plant on
this island". Because, and I said it before.

1. This is an island, not a continent.

2. We have an active volcano still erupting.

No. X31 08

1wPresented °D
Ref. -
NaL DoW AUG
