AA IRRADIATION IS NOT NEEDED AND COULD

ACTUALLY DAII-AAGE HAWAII'S EXPORT

INDUSTRIES AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF
DIVERSIFIED AGRICULTURE.
P

Hawaii now has two non-toxic methods to treat fruit
for fruit fly infestation. These are the old vapor heat

AL-
16:4
method and the improved High Temperature
Forced Air Method. 0
The Big Island has 3 vapor heat facilities that are working below capacity. Dole,
on Oahu, has invested in 2 forced air units and is reporting high quality results.
Dole has 500 acres planted in papaya and 300 to 500 acres in other exotic tropical
fruits. The forced air can be used for a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Mike Williamson PhD, who designed the forced air unit, reports that the
University of Hawaii receives $10,000 for every unit sold abroad. Fi}i, the Cook
Islands and Tonga have purchased units. Australia is interested. Dr. Williamson
has this to say about agriculture and irradiation. Speaking from M years of
professional experience in Hawaii agricultural industries, he says: %
"The problem of our export agriculture is low production and
uneven supply to the market, not a lack of treatment facilities. It
would be unfortunate if the island of Hawaii became identified

with "irradiation" since such a reputation could endanger all of our
agricultural exports regardless of the method of post-harvest
treatment."

What About Meat Irradiation?
Have you ever wondered why 85% to 90% of meat is reported as being contaminated?
1 Ten years ago there was not much of a problom. Meat contamination is on the n_se
f because animals are kept in cruel and unsanitary confinement, high speed slaughtering
I practices are spilling fecal matter over the carcasses, and animals are being fed chicken
manure, dead dogs and cats and the waste products from slaughterhouses themselves.
Can humans be in such gross violation of the natural order and not expect consequences?
Would you like to buy meat with irradiated or non-irradiated fecal matter?
SUPPORT LOCAL AG. BUY CLEAN MEAT AVAILABLE IN HEALTH FOOD
STORES. BUY MOUNTAIN APPLE (KTA) AND PARKER RANCH MEATS.
CLEAN MEAT DOES NOT NEED IRRADIATION. IF MEAT NEEDS
z t IRRADIATION THERV IS SOMF'r'"TNG TERRIBLY WRONG WITH ITS
ia~ r(ii:'.,
