REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON NLJMAN SERVICES & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DATE: July 22, 1997 RE: COMM. NO. 360.01 PLACE: Councilroom TIME: 1:30 p.m. Chairman and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Economic Development and Human Services, to which was referred Communication No. 360.01 and attached Bill No. 106, reports as follows: Communication No. 360.01 is a letter from Mayor Stephen Yamashiro, dated June 25, 1997, transmitting Bill No. 106 for the Council's consideration. The Communication states that on June 13, 1997 Bill No. 103 was submitted to the Council in an effort to create a Hawaii County Family Violence Advisory Commission. The Communication further states that grammatical and structural errors were found in Bill No. 103 and that a new bill, Bill No. 106, is attached to take its place. Bill No. 106 amends Chapter 2 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (1995 edition) by adding a new article that establishes a Family Violence Advisory Commission. Communication No. 360.01 also provides a justification of the need for this Commission, the goal of the Commission and a proposed annual budget estimate. Deputy Prosecutor and Domestic Violence Inter-Agency Team Coordinator Nora Sanchez- Turner, Domestic Violence Inter-Agency Team Member Marlys Brodie and Volunteer Coordinator of the Prosecutor's Domestic Violence Unit Holly Hollins all testified in support of the Bill. They also answered questions from the Committee in regards to the make up and operation of the Commission.
