REPORT OF THE
COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS AND PARKS
DATE: August 19, 1997 RE: COMM. NO.417/RES. NO. 135
PLACE: Councilroom
TIME: 9:05 a.m.
Chair and Members
Hawaii County Council
Hilo, Hawaii 96720
Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. 417
and attached Resolution No. 135, reports as follows:
The purpose of Resolution No. 135 is to accept approximately 1.5 acres of land, the completed
Keauhou Fire Station building, and related facilities from the Kamehameha Investment
Corporation. The property, which is located at Keauhou 1 and 2, North Kona, Hawaii, at
TMK (3) 7-8-07:53, will be utilized as a County fire station to benefit residents in the area.
Communication No. 417 is a letter from Corporation Counsel Richard D. Wurdeman, dated
July 28, 1997, which transmits Resolution No. 135 to the County Council for its review and
consideration.
Your Committee amended Resolution No. 135 by substituting Bill No. 135, Draft 2. Draft 2
corrected an error in the tax map key number, clarified that the Council would be accepting the
property via quitclaim rather than dedication deed, and provided background on the history and
need for this action. (See also Communication No. 417.01.)
In response to questions about a reference in the Resolution to Kamehameha Investment Corp. as
the owner of the newly constructed fire station, Deputy Corporation Counsel Fred Giannini
agreed to submit a new draft of the resolution which would clarify the ownership status of the
building. In addition, Your Committee asked that staff research whether the County or the State
is responsible for installation of appropriate signage or lights indicating the presence of a fire
station at this location.
No testimony in opposition to this bill was offered.
Your Committee is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 135, Draft 2 and
recommends its adoption.
Ic
AYES NOES A&E EX Respectfully submitted
YAGONG X CO1v~1ITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS & PARKS
REYNOLDS X \
CHUNG X 1,'\ i:~~wv~-,~, ~..L E

LEITHEAD-TODD X DOMINIC YAGONC~,
CIA R ~
RAY X 1~1R l I ;
SANTANGELO X PW&PC REP T I`GO. `J 62
SMl'rH X
ARAKAKI E.O.A~ X ADOPTF,D: FILED - 09/03/97
