REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS AND PARKS <br /> DATE: September 2, 1997 RE: COMM. NO. 444/BILL NO. 125 <br /> PLACE: Councilroom <br /> TIME: 9:07 a.m. <br /> Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. 444 <br /> and attached Bill No. 125, reports as follows: <br /> The purpose of Bill No. 125 is to amend Chapter 24, article 10, to enlarge the present no-parking <br /> zone along Kilauea Avenue to extend between Aupuni and Ohea Streets. This adjustment would <br /> facilitate the implementation of proposed channelization improvements along Kilauea Avenue <br /> that are intended to improve traffic safety at the intersections of Kilauea Avenue and Lanikaula <br /> Street and Kilauea Avenue and Kawili Street. <br /> Bill No. 125 would amend Chapter 24, article ]0, division 5, section 24-280, schedule 28 <br /> (No parking at anytime), subsection (c), South Hilo, item (70), of the Hawaii County Code <br /> (1995 edition) as follows: <br /> "(70) Kilauea Avenue, [makai] g~ side, from [Kohola] East Ohea Street to a point <br /> five hundred eighty-five feet Hamakua of Aupuni Street." <br /> <br /> Bill No. 125 would also amend Chapter 24, article 10, division 5, section 24-280, schedule 28 <br /> <br /> (No parking at anytime), subsection (c), South Hilo, item (72), of the Hawaii County Code <br /> <br /> (1995 edition) as follows: <br /> "(72) Kilauea Avenue, [mauka] we side, from a point two hundred twenty feet <br /> south of Barenaba Lane to [Kohola] West Ohea Street." <br /> <br /> In addition, Bill No. 125 would amend Chapter 24, article 10, division 5, section 24-281, <br /> <br /> schedule 29 (Parking prohibited during certain hours on certain streets), subsection (c), <br /> South Hilo, by deleting item (12) as follows: <br /> "[(12) Kilauea Avenue, both sides, between Ohea Street and Kohola Street from <br /> 6:00 a.m. to 6 00 p.m. daily, except Sundays and holidays.]" <br /> <br /> Communication No. 444 is a letter from Chief Engineer Donna Fay K. Kiyosaki, dated <br /> <br /> August 13, 1997, which transmits Bill No. 125 to the Council for its consideration. <br /> <br /> Communication No. 444.01 is a map of the proposed channelization improvements that was <br /> <br /> provided by the Department of Public Works. <br /> <br />
