NO. 4451BILL NO. 126 PLACE: Councilroom TIME: 9:07 a.m. Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. 445 and attached Bil] No. 126, reports as follows: The purpose of Bill No. 126 is to amend Chapter 24, article 10, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (1995 edition) to designate a bicycle route along Kalanianaole Street from Kamehameha Avenue to Lokoaka Street. Bill No. 126 would amend Chapter 24, article ] 0, division 9, section 24-295, schedule 43 (Bicycle routes), subsection (c) South Hilo, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (1995 edition) by adding the following: Kalanianaole Street. Kamehameha Avenue to Lokoaka Street." Communication No. 445 is a letter from Chief Engineer Donna Fay K. Kiyosaki, dated August 13, 1997, which transmits Bill No. 126 to the Council for its consideration. Your Committee received testimony in support of this bill from Bob Wilkins of the Leleiwi Community Association and Ron Reilly, Chair of the Mayor's Advisory Committee on Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety. (See Communications No. 445.01 and 445.02 from Mr. Reilly.) In addition, Your Committee heard from Richard Nishimura, of the Department of Public Works Traffic Division regarding what creating a bike route would entail. No testimony in opposition to this bill was offered.
