NO. 992/ BILL NO. 299 <br /> PLACE: Councilroom <br /> TIME: 9:07 a.m. <br /> Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. 992 <br /> and attached Bill No. 299, reports as follows: <br /> The purpose of Bill No. 299 is to amend Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 5, Schedule 29 <br /> (Parking prohibited during certain hours on certain streets), to prohibit parking along Puo <br /> Hulihuli Street on school days, in front of Kealakehe High School. <br /> Bill No. 299 would amend Chapter 24, Article L0, Division 5, Section 281, Schedule 29 <br /> (Parking prohibited during certain hours on certain streets), subsection (f) Kona, of the Hawaii <br /> <br /> County Code 1983 (1995 Edition) by adding the following: <br /> Puo Hulihuli Street, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on school days. <br /> <br /> Communication No. 992 is a letter from Deputy Chief Engineer Jiro A. Sumach, dated <br /> September 17, 1998, which transmits Bill No. 299 to the Council for its review and <br /> consideration. According to Mr. Sumach, he received a request from Ms. Mary Beth Hilburn, <br /> Vice-Principal of the Kealakehe High School, asking that parking be prohibited along Puo <br /> Hulihuli Street on school days. The Department concurs with the intent of this measure to <br /> <br /> improve overall traffic safety in the immediate area. <br /> Communication No. 992.01 is from Chief Wayne G. Carvalho, dated September 28, 1998, <br /> supporting the prohibition of parking at Puo Hulihuli Street fronting Kealakehe High School. <br /> Chief Carvalho also states that adequate parking is available within the school's parking lots <br /> to accommodate drivers picking up students after school. <br /> <br />
