REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS AND PARKS <br /> DATB: January 7, 1997 RE: COMM. NO. 40 <br /> PLACE: Councilroom <br /> TIME: 9:00 a.m. <br /> Chairperson and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. 40 and <br /> attached Bill No. 10, reports as follows: <br /> The purpose of Bill No. ] 0 is to amend Chapter 24, Article 10, Section 24-288 of the Hawaii <br /> County Code to establish a freight loading zone area at Hanama Place in Kona. Bill No. 10 <br /> amends Chapter 24, Article ] 0, Section 24-288, Schedule 36 (Freight loading zones), Subsection <br /> (f) Kona, of the Hawaii County Code, by adding the following item to be appropriately <br /> numbered and to read as follows: <br /> Hanama Place_ at its terminus The fifty-five foot section <br /> on the makai side frontingthe Kailua Trade Center " <br /> Communication No. 40 is a letter from Chief Engineer Donna Fay K. Kiyosaki, dated <br /> December 12, 1996 which transmits Bill No. 10 to the Council for its consideration. The <br /> Communication indicates that after considering the options raised by Your Committee and <br /> consulting with Mr. Rolf Vossen, Property Manager of the Kailua Trade Center, the <br /> Department's recommendation is that Hanama Place fronting the Kailua Trade Center be <br /> designated a freight loading zone. <br /> Bill No. 10 was considered by Your Committee at its January 7, 1997 meeting In addition to <br /> the information contained in ('ommunication No. 40, Your Committee also considered <br /> statements made by Council Member Curtis Tyler. Council Member Tyler noted that because <br /> Hanama Place is a dead end, parked cars on this street create an unsafe situation because cazs <br /> must back up in order to exit.
