NQ 278. ! i <br /> PLACE: Councilroom <br /> TIME: 8:05 a m. <br /> Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. 278 <br /> and attached Resolution No. 80, reports as follows: <br /> The purpose of Resolution No. 80 is to express the County Council's support of the preservation <br /> of the Ala Kahakai trail. Resolution No. 80 further expresses the Council's support of events <br /> that will occur as a part of the local celebration of National Trails Day on June 7, 1997, that will <br /> draw special attention to the .91a Kahakai. <br /> Communication No. 278 is a memorandum from Council Member Curtis Tyler dated <br /> April 24, 1997 which transmits Resolution No. 80 to Council Chair James Arakaki for the <br /> Councils review and consideration. <br /> During discussion of this matter, Council Member John Ray acknowledged the considerable <br /> work that has been done by those who have organized and supported the preservation of the <br /> trails system. Your Committee heard from Mr. Rodney Oshiro, of the Na Ala Hele Program, <br /> about funding for the program and future hikes that have been planned. In arriving at its <br /> recommendation, Your Committee also considered testimony submitted by Ms. Clare H. Wilson <br /> in support of Resolution No. 80.
