BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> The Hawaii Fire Department applied for and was awarded a grant under the FY 2008 Assistance to <br /> Firefighters Grant program, from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The approved project costs <br /> total $531,203. The Federal share is 80 percent or $424,963 and the County share is 20 percent or <br /> $106,240. The approved project is for the establishment of a Firefighter Health & Wellness program <br /> involving an extensive individual medical assessment and monitoring program, an education and training <br /> program, and the provision exercise and health assessment equipment.
