REQUEST: <br /> <br /> Amend Ordinance 08-79, the Capital Budget by amending the appropriation 110.199.5199.43 for the <br /> Hawaii County Building Improvements by adding $1,978,000 for a new total of $5,500,000. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> <br /> <br /> The additional appropriation requested reflects the appropriation shortage on the $21,800,000 low bid <br /> contract awarded to general contractor Nan Inc. The additional appropriation is requested to prepare <br /> an account for the unforeseen extra work costs during construction, agency moving expenses for <br /> reoccupation of the building upon completing construction and related project expenses. <br /> <br /> This project is needed in order to maintain continued use of the building. Accessibility improvements <br /> are required as settlement to Alexa Russell, et al. vs. COH. Aging air condition system components <br /> require efficient replacements. Communication and electrical system upgrades are required to address <br /> technological changes. Fire alarm/suppression systems are necessary for building code fire resistance <br /> requirements and protection of life and property. Hurricane and seismic resistance upgrades have <br /> been investigated and being incorporated where possible.
