My name is Dan Sakai, Deputy District
Superintendent, Department of Education, Hawaii School District.
I am a former member and chair of the Hawaii County Police
Commission. I am here today to make statements in support of the

county bill that supports the continued marijuana funding and
resources for the Hawaii County Police Department. I understand,
the police department also works with other law enforcement officials
and agencies, such as the DEA, branches of the armed forces, and
DLNR.

This effort against combating this illegal activities must not stop.

When I was the principal of Waiakea High School, there was a
marked difference of decrease drug problems and identification in
relation to marijuana, when proper funding and resources was
supported to the police department. As a police commissioner, I had
the opportunity to accompany these law enforcement agency
personnel on the ground and in the helicopter. I was impressed with
the law enforcement professionalism, but also my concern with the

illegal marijuana plants that are grown on the Big Island.

Again, I would like to ask for your support of this funding bill and to
support the efforts of the Hawaii County Police Department.

Sincerely,

Dan I.
