COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. °:: ~ <t~ <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE HAWAII COUNTY COUNCIL TO ENTER <br />INTO A CONTRACT FOR A LEGISLATIVE LIAISON FOR THE 2009 REGULAR <br />SESSION OF THE STATE OF HAWAII LEGISLATURE FOR A PERIOD NOT TO <br />EXCEED 210 DAYS AND AT A COST NOT TO EXCEED $55,000. <br />WHEREAS, the Hawaii State Legislature hears legislation directly affecting Hawaii <br />County; and <br />WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council desires to be more responsive to matters before the <br />Hawaii State Legislature during its regular legislative session; and <br />WHEREAS, timely communication between the Council and its legislative liaison will keep <br />the Council informed of legislation affecting Hawaii County; and <br />WHEREAS, during the 2008 session, the legislative liaison played a key role in extending <br />the County Council's support for a variety of bills before the Hawaii State Legislature, such as H.B. <br />661, establishing a comprehensive public funding pilot project for Hawaii County Council elections <br />and S.B. 958, requesting afive-year moratorium on testing and growing ofgenetically-modified <br />taro; and <br />WHEREAS, there are sufficient funds in the Clerk-Council Svc OCE account (Account No. <br />010.101.5101.02.115) to cover the expenses projected at $55,000; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it may <br />enter into a contract for a legislative liaison for the 2009 Regular Session of the State of Hawaii <br />Legislature for a period not to exceed 210 days and at a cost not to exceed $55,000; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council authorizes the Mayor, on its behalf, to <br />sign instruments requiring execution by the County as required by article V, chapter I, section 5- <br />1.3(g) of the Hawaii County Charter; and <br />
