The U.S. Army Corps of <br /> Engineers, after several years of preliminary study by the Honolulu Area Office, has <br /> received permission to complete a feasibility study into the installation of a new boat ramp <br /> at Mahukona in North Kohala. This study is to be funded by both federal and county <br /> monies. <br /> As part of this agreement, the County will be committed to paying its share of this study in <br /> three increments, until FY 2010-11. The first of three funding increments is already <br /> budgeted in the current fiscal year's operating budget. Subsequent funding will be <br /> needed if feasibility is determined and the County decides at that time to proceed with the <br /> construction of the project. A ball park figure for the costs beyond the Feasibility Study is <br /> $5 to $6 Million. <br /> Since the Corps' staff in Washington D.C. has given the Honolulu Office a deadline of <br /> September 30, 2008 to have the contract completed with the County of Hawai'i, the <br /> Department of Parks and Recreation is humbly requesting a waiver from the Finance <br /> Committee and to have this resolution heard at the Council meeting scheduled for <br /> September 24, 2008. <br /> If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Department of Parks and <br /> Recreation. <br /> <br /> <br /> Comm.' <br /> William Tak a No. T <br /> Ref.
