COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. 76~. 08 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT ' <br />AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) <br />WHEREAS, water is a unique and primary resource for societies and economies, playing <br />a crucial role, from usage for our agricultural and residential lands to the dilution and evacuation <br />of soiled wastewater; and <br />WHEREAS, water availability for these and other purposes can be a challenge, <br />especially in the face of increased residential and commercial growth, the need for expanded <br />local agriculture production, and the disruptions created by earthquakes and flood/drought <br />cycles; and . <br />WHEREAS, to support the Hawaii Island's desire to take the lead in greater self- <br />sufficiency in terms of energy and food production, a thorough understanding of the current <br />systems and entities that affect water release, water usage, and water regeneration is essential;, ~ <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to, <br />the Department of Research and Development to be used to support the Kohala Center program <br />that will analyze the feasibility of lazge-scale wastewater reuse, develop a supplementary energy <br />analysis for the Water Use and Development Plan, and investigate in more detail the connections <br />between food, energy, and water, in order to inform the County's current and future policy <br />makers about the most sustainable and robust development strategies; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the <br />following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below: <br />FUND: General <br />AMOUNT OF <br />APPROPRIATION: $14,000 <br />OUT AND FROM: <br />010.101.5101.91 Clerk-Council SVC -Contingency Relief $14,000 <br />
