COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. 798 ~8 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A' <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) <br />WHEREAS, the Institute for a Sustainable Future, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, <br />through collaborative efforts with organizations in West Hawaii and volunteer citizens of the <br />community, presents the 2009 Kona Earth Festival, to commence April 25, 2009 through <br />May ] 0, 2009; and <br />WHEREAS, the purpose and goal of the Kona Earth Festival is to raise awareness of and <br />respect for the environment through activities and events that promote practical and ethical <br />solutions for sustainability, while ensuring culturally appropriate context; and <br />WHEREAS, the Kona Earth Festival includes events such as: Earth Day Fair, Coral Reef <br />Awareness Day, Malama `Aina Clean Up Day, Recycled Art and Fashion Show, West Hawaii <br />Veterans' Cemetery Dryland Reforestation Project, Planet Earth Environmental Pilm Series, <br />Community Tree Planting in O`oma State Forest, Kuleana Green Business Conference & Trade <br />Show, Kona Soil & Water Conservation District 4X4 Mountain Tour, Farm Tour of Organic <br />Mini-Farm, Earth Mother's Day; and many other events yet to be determined; and <br />WHEREAS, the Kona Earth Festival activities will educate visitors and citizens of West <br />Hawaii and provide opportunities to experience sensitive and ethical stewardship skills that <br />promote protection of Hawai`i's natural and cultural resources; and <br />WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to <br />the Department of Research and Development to be used towards the Kona Earth Day Festival to <br />defray the costs to provide this educational and valuable community service; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the <br />following amount is hereby transferred and appropriated as set forth below: <br />FUND: General <br />AMOUNT OF <br />APPROPRIATION: $3,000 <br />
