REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br /> DATE: September 15, 1998 Re: Comm. No. 973/Res. No. 320-98 <br /> PLACE: Councilroom <br /> TIME: 11:45 A.M. <br /> Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 320-98, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 320-98, transmitted jointly with Resolution No. 321-98 by Finance Director Harry <br /> Takahashi, dated September 2, 1998, via Communication No. 973, authorizes the Mayor to enter into an <br /> agreement with the United States of America for a Kona Gang Prevention Grant. <br /> The United States of America through the State Department of Human Services Office of Youth Services, <br /> is desirous of providing funding to monitor gang activities within the County of Hawaii and assist the state <br /> in the coordination of intelligence and law enforcement, sharing of information, training and community <br /> awareness, community and school-based intervention and prevention programs, and evaluation and <br /> research. <br /> The Hawaii County Police Department is ready and willing to proceed with its obligations under the Gang <br /> <br /> - Prevention Grant. <br /> Pursuant to Section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, the Federal government may enter into agreements with <br /> the Council of the County of Hawaii providing the expenditures or receipt of funds or for other assistance. <br /> The Mayor is hereby authorized and designated to sign in the name of the County Project Number DHS- <br /> 98-OYS-6097, which will effectuate these purposes. <br /> Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 320-98 and <br /> recommends its adoption. <br /> Ici <br /> Ayes Tlec~ A&E EX <br /> Respectfully submitted <br /> cxoNC X <br /> I.EITHEAD-TODD X COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br /> ItAV X ~ <br /> 3ANTANGELO X <br /> sMrrx X AARON S.Y.
