<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />AGREEMENT ESTABLISHING GUIDELINES FOR THE ENHANCEMENT OF THE <br />SISTER CITY RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE BIG ISLAND-COUNTY OF <br />HAWAII AND THE ISLAND OF TASMANIA, AUSTRALIA. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on January 22, 1997, County of Hawaii Resolution <br />No. was unanimously approved which formally authorized a <br />sister city relationship between the Big Island and the Island <br />of Tasmania, Australia; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, to nurture and sustain a continuing and <br />purposeful relationship between these two communities, mutually <br />agreed upon covenants to enhance this new association is worthy <br />of consideration, <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that reciprocally accepted <br />recitals are hereby consented to as follows: <br /> <br />1. There shall be a minimum of one goodwill mission exchanged <br />within a five-year period; the first shall occur before <br />January 31, 2002. Appropriate community, civic and <br />service organizations shall be invited as participants and <br />or facilitators for these occasions. <br /> <br />2. If available, exchange of documents on a regular basis <br />will be programmed to facilitate interaction and <br />communication, e.g., constitutions/charters, data books, <br />annual reports, newsletters, various codes, special <br />studies/reports, etc. <br /> <br />3. A student exchange program shall be pursued and initiated <br />if feasible using resources such as the University of <br />Hawaii-Hilo, the Department of Education and any other <br />willing private schools. <br /> <br />4. An informational clearing house shall be established on <br />the Big Island and Tasmania to provide interested and <br />potential travelers with brochures, maps, periodicals and <br />other documents for the purpose of easier access to travel <br />information, and or economic opportunities on each <br />respective island. <br /> <br />5. Any other interaction in the form of educational, <br />cultural, technical, trade, political, industrial or <br />professional ideas having potential benefits shall be <br />shared whenever possible. <br />
