<br />,.,-~ <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII <br /> <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 3 5o~ 97: <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE W AlVER OF PARKING METER FEES <br />TO ACCOMMODATE THE ELEVENTH ANNUAL HILO MARDI GRAS. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on February 8, 1997 the Hilo Downtown Improvement <br />Association in conjunction with the County of Hawaii and other Hilo businesses <br />and individuals, will be sponsoring the Eleventh Almual Hilo Mardi Gras at the <br />Kalakaua Park and on Kalakaua Street between Keawe and Kinoole Streets~ and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Eleventh Annual Hilo Mardi Gras wIll be open to the public <br />and will feature free entertainment, food booths and other activities and events that <br />serve to bring our community together, providmg recreation and celebration for <br />visitor and resident alike~ and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in order to help further facilitate events of the day, the event's <br />coordinators have requested a pennit from the Police Department to close the <br />section of Kalakaua Street between Keawe and Kinoole Streets; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the event's coordinators have also asked that the parking meter <br />fees be waived for the section of Kalakaua Street between Keawe and Kinoole <br />Streets; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Chapt~r 24, Section 24-217(c), of the Hawaii <br />County Code 1983, the County Council may, by resolution, dispense with the <br />enforcement of Section 24-216 and 24-216.1, which requires persons to deposit <br />coins in parking meters or pay a flat rate payment, for a specified time in any <br />specified parking meter zone to accommodate any special event, convention, <br />parade, or other similar activity. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII that it dispenses with the enforcement of Chapter 24, <br />Sectlon24-216 and 24-216.1, of the Hawaii COWIty Code 1983, for a 12 hour <br />
