<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />I <br />.'"~...~ <br /> <br />.... .... <br /> <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII ,STATE OF HAWAII <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 11 0 97 <br /> <br />NAMING A STREET IN THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, STATE OF HA WAIl. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii is authorized to adopt street names for <br /> <br />unnamed roadways in the County of Hawaii pursuant to Section 22-35, Article 2, Chapter 22, <br /> <br />Hawaii County Code; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Territory of Hawaii created a subdivision known as Olaa Reservation <br /> <br />Lots in the early 1900's at Olaa, Puna, Hawaii; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the roadway connecting a portion of the Olaa Reservation Lots to the <br /> <br />Volcano Road (Main Government Road) has been referred to as "Homestead Road" on the Tax <br /> <br />Maps; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this "Homesteads Road" is situated where a rest stop or halfway house on <br /> <br />the Hilo-Kilauea crater trail was operated by Hawelu, a renown kia manu or bird catcher; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this area has been historically referred to as Hawelu's; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this "Homesteads Road" has been referred to as "Hawelu Road" by <br /> <br />kamaaina residents of the area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, more than sixty percent of the landowners being served by this roadway <br /> <br />have agreed to the name "Hawelu Road;" <br />
