No. 186 <br /> PLACE: Councilroom <br /> TIME: 10:50 A.M. <br /> Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 186, reports as follows: <br /> <br /> Resolution No. 186, transmitted by Finance Director Harry Takahashi, via Communication <br /> <br /> No. 571.01, dated November 6, 1997, creates nine (9) Police Officer II, PO-07 positions in the Hawaii <br /> County Police Department under the terms of the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), <br /> Accelerated Hiring, Education And Deployment (AHEAD) grant.. <br /> The US Department of Justice has approved an award to hire an additional nine (9) Police Officer II <br /> positions under the Police Hiring Supplement Program to augment the community policing program. <br /> These positions will complement the community relations endeavors, and focus on educating youth <br /> about drugs through their direct participation with law enforcement. <br /> Resolution No. 186 further states that if future funding of the Police Officer II positions is not received <br /> from the federal grant the County will either continue funding or abolish these positions. <br /> Submitted jointly with Resolution No. 186 was Communication No. 571.02, transmitted by Police <br /> Chief Wayne Carvalho, dated November 18, 1997, responding to an inquiry to Police Sergeant James <br /> Sanborn at the November 18, 1997, Finance Committee meeting regarding the district assignments for <br /> the new positions. Comm. 571.02 states that these officers will be assigned to the districts of <br /> Hamakua, Ka'u, Puna, South Kohala and Kona.
