COUNTY OF HAWAII ^STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 155 97 A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING SEPTEMBER 15-21, 1997, AS NATIONAL POLLUTION PREVENTION WEEK. WHEREAS, the State Constitution recognizes the need to conserve and protect Hawaii's natural beauty and all natural resources; and WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii supports every citizen's right to a clean and healthful environment; and WHEREAS, pollution prevention reduces or eliminates pollutants or wastes at the source; and WHEREAS, pollution prevention provides opportunities to improve operating efficiencies, reduces operating costs, and decreases environmental risk and liability; and WHEREAS, pollution prevention results in local environmental protection and increased economic competitiveness; and WHEREAS, pollution prevention reduces health and safety risks to workers and the general public; and WHEREAS, pollution prevention improves employee morale, teamwork and productivity; and WHEREAS, pollution prevention serves as a tool for achieving sustainable economic development; and WHEREAS, National Pollution Prevention Week is being proclaimed in Counties throughout the United States as the third week of September; and WHEREAS, National Pollution Prevention Week provides a significant opportunity for local government, businesses, community organizations, and residents to work together to promote a safer environment and sustainable future. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it recognizes September 15-21, 1997, as National Pollution Prevention Week and the County of Hawaii does hereby encourage the community to participate in local activities which prevent pollution and enhance Hawaii County's natural beauty and resources.
