<br />..- -_.., <br /> <br />--- -- -.-- ~---- --- --- -- -- -- --- -- ---------- ~ -- - - ~--- - <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />! <br />i <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />. . <br /> <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII ^STATE OF HAWAII <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 155 97 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING SEPTEMBER 15-21, 1997, AS NATIONAL <br />POLLUTION PREVENTION WEEK. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the State Constitution recognizes the need to conserve and protect <br />Hawaii's natural beauty and all natural resources; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii supports every citizen's right to a clean and <br />healthful environment; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, pollution prevention reduces or eliminates pollutants or wastes at the <br />source; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, pollution prevention provides opportunities to improve operating <br />efficiencies, reduces operating costs, and decreases environmental risk and liability; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, pollution prevention results in local environmental protection and <br />increased economic competitiveness; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, pollution prevention reduces health and safety risks to workers and <br />the general public; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, pollution prevention improves employee morale, teamwork and <br />productivity; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, pollution prevention serves as a tool for achieving sustainable <br />economic development; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, National Pollution Prevention Week is being proclaimed in Counties <br />throughout the United States as the third week of September; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, National Pollution Prevention Week provides a significant <br />opportunity for local government, businesses, community organizations, and residents to <br />work together to promote a safer environment and sustainable future. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII that it recognizes September 15-21, 1997, as National Pollution <br />Prevention Week and the County of Hawaii does hereby encourage the community to <br />participate in local activities which prevent pollution and enhance Hawaii County's <br />natural beauty and resources. <br />
