<br />-~--,- ~-- ------ ---- <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />~ __..'I <br /> <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII ,STATE OF HAWAII <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 186 97 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION CREATING NINE (9) POLICE OFFICER II <br />POSITIONS. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, by Resolution No. 262-94, five (5) Police Officer II <br />positions were created under the Police Hiring Supplement Program, <br />funded by the U. S. Department of Justice for the community policing <br />program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the U. S. Department of Justice approved another <br />award to hire an additional four (4) Police Officer II positions under <br />the Community Oriented Policing Services (C.O.P.S.), Accelerated <br />Hiring, Education and Deployment (A.H.E.A.D.), which positions <br />were created by Resolution No. 264-96; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the U. S. Department of Justice has again granted <br />an additional award to create another nine (9) Police Officer II <br />positions to supplement the previous awards for the community <br />policing program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, these positions will not only complement the <br />community relations endeavors but will also focus on educating <br />youth about drugs through their direct participation with law <br />enforcement; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, once these programs are established, the <br />community groups will carry the programs themselves; and the <br />police will serve in an advisory capacity; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Article V, Section 5-1.3(c) of the Hawaii County <br />Charter states that the Mayor has the power to "Create positions...for <br />which appropriations have been made by the counciL.". <br />
