<br />--------------------~-------------- -------- ------- --- <br />'9 <br /> <br />..-- -- <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII <br /> <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />196 97 <br /> <br />(DRAFT 3) <br /> <br />RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE MAYOR TO DEVELOP A HAMAKUA LANDS <br />DISPOSITION PLAN FOR COUNTY -OWNED PROPERTIES <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in 1994, the Hawaii County Council agreed to accept approximately <br /> <br />4,400 acres of land from Western Farm Credit Bank as settlement for real property tax <br /> <br />payments owed by the former Hamakua Sugar Company; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, these public lands, as presently zoned, have recently been valued at <br /> <br />approximately $10,706,500; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the settlement amount and the annual tax revenues lost as a result of the <br /> <br />private to public ownership conversion have shifted tax burdens to other lands during this <br /> <br />period of public ownership; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the County continues to struggle in distributing its limited resources <br /> <br />amongst ever-increasing demands for more programs, services, and facilities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the disposition of these public lands will result in resources being made <br /> <br />available for programs, services, and facilities and, more importantly, will place these public <br /> <br />lands back on the real property tax rolls. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY <br /> <br />OF HAW All that it requests the Mayor to develop a disposition plan of the former Hamakua <br /> <br />Sugar Company lands delineated in Exhibit A. <br />
