-- ----- - --~- ~- --- ------ ------- --------- .. -". . . ~ COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 219 98 (Draft 2) RESOLUTION DELETING TWO (2) WATER SAFETY OFFICER II STATE-FUNDED POSITIONS AND CREATING FOUR (4) WATER SAFETY OFFICER 111/2T COUNTY-FUNDED POSITIONS AND CHANGING ONE (1) WATER SAFETY OFFICER II STATE-FUNDED POSITION TO COUNTY FUNDED WHEREAS, Article V, Section 5-1.3(c) of the Hawaii County Charter states that the Mayor has the power to "Create positions...for which appropriations have been made by the council and abolish positions with the consent of the council."; and WHEREAS, Position Nos. 3812, 3839 and 3840, Water Safety Officer II, SR-17, are State-funded positions; and WHEREAS, the Kona Coast State Park is no longer being manned by the State-funded water safety officers, hence these 3 positions are unfunded; and WHEREAS, by creating two (2) Water Safety Officer 111/2T positions for East Hawaii, weekend coverage at Onekahakaha and Carlsmith will increase from a single person coverage to double coverage and will also allow for lunch breaks at Honoli'i, Onekahakaha and Richardson during the weekdays; and WHEREAS, by creating two (2) Water Safety Officer 1I1/2T positions and changing Position No. 3812 to a County-funded position, coverage in West Hawaii at Kahalu'u and La'aloa would double to seven (7) days a week; and WHEREAS, funds are available in the Hoolulu Park Complex Repairs to Facilities account. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that State-Funded Position Nos. 3839 and 3840, Water Safety Officer II, SR-17, be deleted, four (4) County-funded Water Safety Officer 1I1/2T positions be created; and that Position No. 3812, Water Safety Officer II be changed from State Funded to County Funded.
