REPORT OF THE <br />COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC SAFETY AND PARKS AND RECREATION <br />DATE: February 18, 2009 Re: Comm. 134 <br />PLACE: Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa <br />78-128 Ehukai Street <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br />TIME: 9:30 a.m. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Your Committee on Public Safety and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred <br />Communication 134, reports as follows: <br />Communication 134 from Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated January 27, 2009, requests <br />the Council's confirmation and approval of the appointment of Sidney Fuke to the <br />County of Hawaii Liquor Commission. <br />Councilmember Brenda Ford questioned Mr. Fuke on his motivation to serve on this <br />commission. Mr. Fuke expressed his desire to serve the community and work within the <br />government for the~betterment of island. He also added that this role would not create <br />any conflict with his land and planning expertise. <br />Councilmember Pete Hoffman asked Mr. Fuke if he sees any specific areas needing <br />immediate attention within the Liquor Commission. Mr. Fuke said he has no specific <br />items or areas for concern, but did express his interest in conflict resolution between <br />neighboring parties. Councilmembers Yagong, Ikeda, and Greenwell expressed their <br />support and positive experiences working with Mr. Fuke in the past on other issues. <br />All committee members present agreed that it would not be necessary for Mr. Fuke to <br />appear before the full Council. <br />PSPRC RPT NO.4 <br />
