<br />REPORT OF THE <br />COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS AND <br />INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS <br />DATE: February 18, 2009 <br />PLACE: Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa <br />78-128 Ehukai Street <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br />TIME: 10:30 a.m. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Re: Comm. No.121/Bi1127 <br />Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred <br />Communication No. 121, regarding Bill 27, reports as follows: <br />Bill 27, transmitted by Director of Public Worl<s, Warren H.W. Lee, via Communication <br />No. 121, dated January 14, 2009 amends Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 2, Section 24-264, <br />Schedule 12 (Stop intersections), paragraph (f) Kona, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 <br />Edition, as amended), by adding the following, to be appropriately numbered and to read as <br />follows: <br />" ~ Kuakini Highway Makala Boulevard intersection, all approaches." <br />There was no testimony from the public on this proposed bill. <br />Traffic Division Chief Ron Thiel appeared before your Committee. Mr. Thiel commented that <br />this amendment is necessary to update the Hawaii County Code. Councilmember Pete <br />Hoffmann agrees this works well at this intersection. Committee Chair Brenda J. Ford agreed <br />that this will help deter vehicles from speeding and to slow down. <br />PWIRC RPT NO. 14 <br />
