<br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 18, ARTICLE 4, DIVISION 1, SECTION 18-
<br />90, SUBSECTION (H), HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983 (2005 EDITION, AS
<br />AMENDED), RELATING TO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
<br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`L•
<br />SECTION 1. Chapter 18, article 4, division 1, section 18-90, Hawaii County Code
<br />1983 (2005 Edition, as amended), is amended by amending subsection (h) to read as follows:
<br />"(h) Island-wide transportation [€ree] kokua zone.
<br />(1) The purpose of this subsection is to provide the public with a transportation
<br />alternative to the private automobile. The provision of an effective public
<br />transportation system [r„~ ."e ~o^:ao„,.. ,.F.",. r,....... ,.F u....,..:~:] will produce
<br />economic, social, and lifestyle benefits for the residents of Hawaii County. The
<br />distances residents must travel for work, medical, education, and social needs will
<br />be alleviated by providing public transportation at [rre] a reduced cost to the user.
<br />(2) The County of Hawaii shall be designated a transportation kokua zone. Riders
<br />boarding and alighting any regularly scheduled bus route operated by the [may
<br />ef-I=Iawai-i] Coun or its designee shall [~~''° F °° ^r ^"°~^° ] be char eg d a
<br />nominal fee of $1 per ride effective July 1, 2009, through .Tune 30, 2010.
<br />(3) The transportation kokua zone shall not apply to County contracted shared-ride
<br />taxi services, County operated [^~~~"~a.~=~-~;z".] curb-to-curb van services, or County
<br />operated non-scheduled bus services.
<br />(4) The County wide transportation kokua zone shall terminate on [n~,~~
<br />~~] June 30, 2010, unless amended by the council.

<br />and sixty days prior to June 30, 2010, the transit administrator shall report to the
<br />council on the impact of the implementation of this amended transportation kokua
<br />zone."
<br />SECTION 2. Material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New material is
<br />underscored. In printing this ordinance, the brackets, bracketed and stricken material and
<br />underscoring need not be included.
<br />SECTION 3. If any provision of this ordinance, or the application thereof to any person
<br />or circumstance, is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications
