No. 28 <br /> PLACE: Councilroom <br /> TIME: 10:47 A.M. <br /> Chairman and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 28, reports as <br /> follows: <br /> Communication No. 28, transmitted by Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated <br /> December 10, 1996, nominates Mrs. Mahina T. Maxey, of Volcano, for reappointment to <br /> <br /> the Hawaii County Tax Board of Review. <br /> Submitted with Communication No. 28 is a letter from Corporation Counsel <br /> Richard D. Wurdeman regazding eligibility requirements for reappointment to the Tax <br /> Board of Review. Originally created by State Law, the Tax Boazd of Review is now <br /> established under the authority of an ordinance, Hawai' i County Code § 19-96. Pursuant <br /> to Article XIII, Section 13-4 of the Hawaii County Charter, in providing various <br /> qualifications for membership, specifically limits itself to "..boazds and commissions <br /> specifically established by this charter..." <br /> <br /> A life-time resident of Hawaii, Mrs. Maxey has been an owner/manager of a bed and <br /> breakfast business. She is active with the Volcano Community Association, the Volcano <br /> <br /> Arts Center, and the Lanikai Community Association. A Democrat, she will serve a term <br /> <br /> to end December 31, 2001. <br /> Mrs. Maxey was not in attendance, however, Mr. Rudy Legaspi, Executive Assistant to <br /> <br /> the Mayor, stated that she will perform her duties as she had during her previous term. <br /> <br /> Your Committee on Finance recommends the approval of the reappointment of <br /> <br /> Mrs. Mahina T.
