COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />9g ®9 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) <br />WHEREAS, from 1943 to 1946 Camp Tarawa, located in the heart of Waimea and on <br />Parker Ranch leased land, welcomed more than 20,000 marines and survivors of the Battle of <br />Tarawa in the Gilbert Islands during World War II ;and <br />WHEREAS, The Camp Tarawa Detachment is dedicated to building astate-of-the-art <br />museum and education facility in Waimea as a landmark to educate contemporary and future <br />generations of the sacrifices made by these Marines and of the support of Parker Ranch and the <br />Waimea population to the war effort; and <br />WHEREAS, The Camp Tarawa Foundation has taken the lead to facilitate the building <br />of this mu]ti-purpose museum, featuring solar and green technologies; and <br />WHEREAS, The Camp Tarawa Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non profit organization, will act <br />as fiscal sponsors for the The Camp Tarawa Museum project; and <br />WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to <br />the Department of Research and Development to be used towards the The Camp Tarawa <br />Museum to defray the costs for the planning of the Camp Tarawa Museum; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the <br />following amount is hereby transferred and appropriated as set forth below: <br />FiJND: General <br />AMOUNT' OF <br />APPROPRIATION: $4,500 <br />
