COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />143 09 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S). <br />WHEREAS, the Hilo Orchid Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has the largest <br />orchid show in the State of Hawaii and has held this annual event for the past 56 years; and <br />WHEREAS, this year's 57`h Annual Hilo Orchid Society Show is scheduled for <br />August 7-9, 2009, at the Edith Kanaka`ole Multi-Purpose Stadium; and <br />WHEREAS, approximately 10,000 people from various parts of the State and mainland <br />are expected to attend this three-day event; and <br />WHEREAS, this event provides demonstrations on orchid culture and allows <br />commercial and amateur growers of Hawaii County to exhibit their orchids; and <br />WHEREAS, people are also given the opportunity to purchase orchids that are not <br />usually available to the general public; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development will accept contingency relief <br />funds to be used specifically for the support of amateur orchid growers to help develop their <br />business skill sets so that they might make contact with future buyers of their products; and <br />WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to <br />the Department of Research and Development to be used towards the 57~~' Annual Hilo Orchid <br />Society Show to help defray expenses related to the exhibitions of amateur orchid growers; now, <br />therefore, <br />
