COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. ~~~ ~~ <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO <br />A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) <br />WHEREAS, Palekana Kai was established in 2004 by two certified lifeguards, with the <br />mission to educate community youth about ocean safety while providing opportunities and <br />alternative activities that build these young adults' confidence, self-esteem, motivation and <br />lifelong respect for ocean and the skills needed to enjoy the ocean; and <br />WHEREAS, Palekana Kai is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization whose five members <br />are experienced lifeguards who volunteer their time to conduct ocean safety classes for youth <br />from the Districts of North Hilo (Hamakua~Coast), Hilo, Puna, Kea`au and Mountain View; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, students between the ages of 6-14 participate in a basic ocean safety <br />course and earn certificates upon completion; students ages 15-18 are eligible for the next level <br />of training which includes CPR/First Aid/AED and ocean rescue; and students ages 16 and <br />above have the opportunity to earn a Lifeguard Certificate; and <br />WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to <br />the Hawaii Fire Department to support Palekana Kai's efforts to purchase and update its <br />training equipment; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVEll BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the <br />following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below: <br />FUND: General <br />AMOUNT OF <br />APPROPRIATION: $500 <br />OUT AND FROM: <br />010.101.5101.91 Clerk-Council SVC -Contingency Relief $500 <br />CREDITED TO: <br />010.221.5223.02 Hawaii Fire Department $500 <br />Ocean Safety OCE <br />(Palekana Kai) <br />
