No. 243 <br />PLACE: Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa <br />78-128 Ehukai Street <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br />TIME: 11:00 a.m. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Your Committee on Environmental Management, to which was referred Communication No. 243, <br />reports as follows: <br />Communication 243 from Mayor Billy Kenoi dated March 30, 2009, requests confirmation of the <br />appointment of Sherman Warner of Council District 9, to the County of Hawaii Environmental <br />Management Commission. Communication No. 243 notes that Mr. Warner is a 29-year resident of <br />Hawaii and presently serves as Vice President of the Waimea Community Association and Board <br />President of the West Hawaii Mediation Center. Mr. Warner was recently a member of the South <br />Kohala Community Development Plan Steering Committee and is a Democrat. If approved, <br />Mr. Warner will serve a term to end on December 31, 2009, replacing Mr. Bill Sanborn who <br />resigned. <br />Pursuant to Article VI, § 6-5.5, Hawaii County Charter, members of the Environmental Management <br />Commission shall be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council. <br />At the April 21, 2009 meeting of the Committee on Environmental Management, although <br />Mr. Warner was out-of--state and unavailable, Councilmembers Hoffmann, Yagong and Ford <br />expressed support of his nomination to the County ofHawai`i Environmental Management <br />Commission. Councilmember Ford however, did note.that she does expect nominees to appear <br />before the Council to answer questions at least one time. Lono Tyson, Director of the Department of <br />Environmental Management stated his support of Mr. Warner, noting that Mr. Warner expresses a <br />strong commitment to the community. <br />EMC Rpt.
