Moving Vehicles, Section 24-264, Schedule 12. Stop intersections, paragraph (g) Puna be amended by deleting item (16). We request the Hawai'i County Code, Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 2. Moving Vehicles, Section 24-265, Schedule 13. Yield locations, paragraph (g) Puna be amended by adding new item: H MAHI'Al ROAD, NORTHEAST APPROACH AT THE AMAUMAU ROAD INTERSECTION. In an effort to address a request from the public to clarify who has the right of way at the subject intersection, we propose to remove the stop control at the southeast approach of Amaumau Road and revise the stop control to a yield control at the northeast approach of Mahiai Road. We feel this change gives right of way to the higher volume route (northeast leg of Mahi'ai Road - Amaumau Road) and yield control to the lower volume route (northeast Mahi'ai Road approach to the Amaumau Road intersection). In this case, it is our opinion that addressing the right of way based on volume will lead to greater respect by the motorists. A location map is attached for your reference. Comm.
