<br />A RESOLUTION URGING THE HAW AI'I STATE LEGISLATURE TO SUPPORT <br />AND PROVIDE ST ATE FUNDING FOR THE HIGHEST PRIORITY CAPITAL <br />IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS IN THE COUNTY OF HAW AI'I <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the statewide unemployment rate for May 2009 was 7 A percent with <br />Hawai'i County's unemployment the highest at lOA percent; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, funding capital improvement projects will help to stimulate the Big Island <br />economy at a time when it is most needed; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Hawai' i County Council has created a list of capital improvement <br />projects throughout the Big Island that are in need of funding; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Hawai'i County Council feels that the most effective way to gain the <br />support of our Legislators is to submit one priority list as a unified Council rather than nine <br />separate lists from each district; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the capital improvementprojects are ranked by priority as follows: <br /> <br />1. Laupilhoehoe Point Access Road Improvement <br />2. Puna Makai Alternate Route (PMAR) <br />3. La'aloa Street Extension (Kailua-Kona) <br />,. ~ <br /> <br />4. South Kona Police Station ~Captain Cook) <br />5. Kapi'olani Street Extension <br />6. Hilo Bayfront Trails <br />7. Waikoloa Gymnasium <br />8. Waimea District Park <br />9. Ke6kea Beach Pavilion <br />10. Waimea Trails and Greenways <br />11. Nil'illehu Fire Station; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this priority list, as shown in detail in "Exhibit A," will be sent to our <br />Legislators for the 2010 Legislative Session; and <br /> <br />. WHEREAS, each Council Member is responsible for providing documentation (e.g., <br />plans and designs, maps, costs, etc.) of their district project upon request by our State <br />Legislative delegation; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAW AI'I that the <br />Hawai'i County Council respectfully requests the Hawai'i State Legislature to support and <br />provide State funding for the priority projects listed above. <br />
