A RESOLUTION URGING THE HAW AI'I STATE LEGISLATURE TO SUPPORT AND PROVIDE ST ATE FUNDING FOR THE HIGHEST PRIORITY CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS IN THE COUNTY OF HAW AI'I WHEREAS, the statewide unemployment rate for May 2009 was 7 A percent with Hawai'i County's unemployment the highest at lOA percent; and WHEREAS, funding capital improvement projects will help to stimulate the Big Island economy at a time when it is most needed; and WHEREAS, the Hawai' i County Council has created a list of capital improvement projects throughout the Big Island that are in need of funding; and WHEREAS, the Hawai'i County Council feels that the most effective way to gain the support of our Legislators is to submit one priority list as a unified Council rather than nine separate lists from each district; and WHEREAS, the capital improvementprojects are ranked by priority as follows: 1. Laupilhoehoe Point Access Road Improvement 2. Puna Makai Alternate Route (PMAR) 3. La'aloa Street Extension (Kailua-Kona) ,. ~ 4. South Kona Police Station ~Captain Cook) 5. Kapi'olani Street Extension 6. Hilo Bayfront Trails 7. Waikoloa Gymnasium 8. Waimea District Park 9. Ke6kea Beach Pavilion 10. Waimea Trails and Greenways 11. Nil'illehu Fire Station; and WHEREAS, this priority list, as shown in detail in "Exhibit A," will be sent to our Legislators for the 2010 Legislative Session; and . WHEREAS, each Council Member is responsible for providing documentation (e.g., plans and designs, maps, costs, etc.) of their district project upon request by our State Legislative delegation; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAW AI'I that the Hawai'i County Council respectfully requests the Hawai'i State Legislature to support and provide State funding for the priority projects listed above.
