<br /> <br /> <br /> JNtV Gi N, <br /> <br /> <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> ~rE os•N~.P <br /> <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 257 09 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION TO ESTABLISH A SHORELINE PARK SYSTEM. <br /> <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the present economic downturn has alerted residents to focus on the need <br /> for a sustainable course for the future; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, that course most logically will be based on the preservation of our assets; <br /> and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, those assets are largely aesthetic links to our open spaces; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, those open spaces are probably best protected by being included in a park <br /> setting; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, perhaps the biggest draw for visitors is a park/open space setting; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, parks best preserve life style and land value; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, now is a unique time to begin negotiations to acquire open space; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, much of the Kona Coast is presently undeveloped; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, virtually all of this undeveloped coastline belongs to the State of Hawaii; <br /> now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the <br /> County Council begin negotiations with the State of Hawaii to classify these lands as future <br /> open space. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Council begins the process of <br /> envisioning a shoreline park stretching from Kailua through Kawaihae and extending northbound <br /> including existing and developed trail systems. <br /> <br /> BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward copies of this <br /> resolution to the Honorable Mayor William Kenoi, the Director of the Planning Department, the <br /> Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Honorable Governor Linda Lingle, the <br /> Director of the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of State Parks, the Chair of <br /> the Board of Land and Natural Resources. <br /> <br /> <br /> Pagel of 2 <br />
