Commission Meetings (continued) July 13 Kona August 10 Hilo September 14 Kona October 12 Hilo November 9 Kona December 14 Hilo During these meetings the Commission continued to receive testimonies from the public, and engaged in discussion with invited guests: Aric Arakaki and Rick Gmirkin of the Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail, National Park Service; Deanna Sako, Deputy Director of Finance for the County of Hawaii; Larry Brown and Dana Okano, Planners, County of Hawaii Planning Department. s, Suggestion Form The Suggestion Form [revised February 9, 2009] (see Appendix 5) is available to the public by request through the County Finance Department or on-line at http://www.hawaii- county.com/finance/ponc.htm. A total of fourteen Suggestion Forms were received from the public between July 1, 2008 and May 29, 2009. The Commission considered properties identified on these forms that were submitted by the public when creating the 2009 Prioritized List. Assessment Criteria Form The Commission updated and streamlined the Assessment Criteria Form [revised February 9, 2009] (see Appendix 6) to include only three criteria sections and a revised scoring method. This Assessment Criteria Form was utilized to assess the Suggestion Forms received during the aforementioned time period. Commission and Community Concerns The following is a listing of new and continuing concerns and problems identified by the Commission: ➢ The Commission would like to encourage the Mayor and the Hawaii County Council to request of the Commission and County Property Manager clarification or more information, as needed, prior to any recommended purchase actions on property listings. ➢ Recommending properties for purchase 'is the stated goal of the Commission. However the Commission and the public are concerned that active management, including Q maintenance and enforcement needs must be addressed. Funding sources need to be identified for management purposes. -3-
