WHEREAS, the event h.own to a week-long celebration of .munity activities, including <br />~. among others, a Kona Block Party, an Alzheimer's Benefit Walk-Run, a Sports Medicine Seminar, a sports <br />product Exhibition, a Carbo-Loading Dinner, Awards Banquet, and Volunteers Party; and <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the lronman has demonstrated how partnerships between the local residents, <br />businesses, and government have brought the community together and improved the quality of life for <br />many people. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE HAW Al'l COUNTY COUNCIL extends its . <br />sincere congratulations and heartfelt thanks to the founders, organizers, and volunteers of the Ironman <br />Triathlon World Championship on the 20th Anniversary of this world-renown event. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council extends its warmest aloha, best wishes and good <br />luck to the participants, their families and friends for a safe and fun-filled week. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council expresses its deep appreciation to Navy Captain <br />John Collins for his initial organizational efforts and continued role in the tremendous growth of the <br />Ironman. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council also expresses its deep appreciation to Valerie Silk <br />for her vision in bringing the Ironman to Kona and for her tireless efforts and personal commitment to <br />increasing its stature worldwide. <br /> <br />BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk forward copies of this Resolution to the <br />World Triathlon Corporation, Ms. Sharron Ackles, Ironman Triathlon Race Director, Navy Captain John <br />Collins, MS.Valerie Silk and the Honorable Stephen K.
